Huave Armadillo Mask

This mask was handcarved by a member of the Huave peoples.  This population lives on the Pacific Coast of Mexico in the state of Oaxaca.  They have occupied this region for 3000 plus years.

Age of the mask is uncertain, it was purchase no later than 1995.

The mask measures 12 inches tall, 8 inches wide, and 3 inches deep.  It is handcarved in wood with fur and armadillo shell coverings.
